Emmas photography work has a particular interest in nature and the sea. She takes interest in flowers, something inspired by the folklore she reads. In the series of Roadside Flowers, Emma appropriates these forgotten and overlooked flowers by photographing them, giving them pride of place
She gives them a particular unique emphasis using Polaroid, making something we fail to notice, something special.
Emma’s interests in photography vary greatly, as do most of us. She has a profound interest in analogue photography and in particular large format, medium format, Polaroid and Polaroid transfers.
“I feel that sea evokes a feeling of quiet and greatness and often leaves me feeling in awe. For me photographing the sea is cathartic. Maybe because this is where I have spent the majority of my life”
Whilst at university Emma did a beautiful photographic study of adolescence, contrasting photographs of her sister and cousin who are of a similar age. A subject interest so vastly different to the ethereal landscapes taken today
“I think my interests have changed in the sense that I like to make work where I can just rely on myself. Then I know I have full control. I also feel that there are so many photographers looking at adolescence now the work would never stand out”
Emma Currently lives and works in Margate, UK, is the proud mother and wife of a new family. As of next year Emma will be curating an exhibition of artists who use traditional process. Watch this space…
