This work comes from Georgia Lloyd who moved to the small town of Marathon, Texas. Lifestyle in the small town of roughly 430 people is so far removed from the large cities.
Marathon attracts people for all different reasons, being so rural, people come to see the milky way, climb the mountains, witness violent storms or to encounter a rattlesnake to experience nature in its rawest of format. Another draw to Marathon is the beautiful and grand natural landscape.
Hit the jump to see Georgia's exploration of the isolation she feels in Marathon.
“…but there is another less tangible quality in the land that, although hard to describe, is undeniable. The solitude and the strange physical occurrences that take place here form a recipe that makes this area unworldly.”
However the draw to Marathon for Georgia was something similar, whilst being there the overwhelming conflicting feelings about her stay are prevalent. This is a small selection of images from an ongoing series for Georgia. The work is a response to her feelings of isolation in such a small town. Reflecting on her state of mind whilst living there and exploring her attraction to the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
